Fruit consumption in Poland is still quite low. Apples are eaten the most, far too few other fruits – currants, rough, malin, strawberries, wild strawberry, which can be grown in a home garden or on a plot. The amount of fruit obtained from a properly planted and carefully cultivated plot is enough for 4…5-personal family. The fruit grown on your own plot is better than the ones bought in the store, fresh and more accessible. Very important, especially in small gardens, it is rational and modern plot development and proper selection of varieties. When planning the planting of the plot, one should select varieties suitable for cultivation in allotment gardens, paying attention to these fruit plants, which – although less popular – they also grow well and bear fruit in our climatic conditions. These include little known yet: highbush blueberry, black raspberry or thornless blackberry. Most of the characterized varieties are characterized by considerable resistance to diseases. This allows the use of chemicals to be kept to a minimum, and even without their use, you can count on a good yield. Selected tree varieties should be purchased on poorly growing vegetative rootstocks. Such trees grow slower and begin bearing fruit earlier; their fruits are larger, more colored and tastier.
