Small violets have long won the hearts of plant lovers with their delicate shapes and strong scent of flowers. However, when you think about violets, we usually associate these beautiful flowers with the color purple. It turns out, that these modest little plants are more versatile, not only in terms of the color of the petals.
The color palette of flowers in addition to the typical blue-violet color, it includes various shades of pink and yellow and goes all the way to white. In addition, there are also varieties with flower petals decorated with a delicate colorful pattern. The full-flowered varieties are another type of variety. Delicate beauties easily attract attention to themselves, when the flower beds bloom luxuriantly on the shore, under bushy roses or in a well-chosen color pot. By planting violets under the roses, keep a distance of at least from the center of the bush 50 cm. In this way, densely growing small perennials will not compete with roses for priority access to water and food. You should also pay attention to this in the following years, so that the vials do not expand too much. In the garden, cute little ones feel best in sunny or semi-shaded places, with a constantly slightly moist substrate.
For fragrant species, like our native violet Viola odorata, the best place is right next to your patio door or front door, provided it is fairly humid and cool there. The smell of the plants blooming here will be felt the most. It is best to plant more violets at once, so that the scent of flowers is as intense as possible, strongly felt at the entrance, even at the first flowering. If we get a few or a dozen flowers into a bottle from such an impressive clump, their absence will not be noticeable.
Most varieties of native violets keep their leaves green throughout the winter. Also for this reason, they are ideal plants for the edges of small flower beds. In addition to the ornamental value, violets also have other benefits. Their flowers emit large amounts of volatile oils, containing substances that help in the treatment of respiratory diseases. Oils are also used in the perfume industry.
