Growing wild strawberries

Wild strawberryWild strawberries grown in many gardens are propagated from seeds. Plants reproduced generatively repeat faithfully the characteristics of the mother plants. Wild strawberries can also be propagated by dividing mother plants.

Strawberry seeds are obtained from fruits harvested from plants that are distinguished by a healthy appearance and a long fruiting period.. Harvested fruit is crushed on dense sieves, and then rinsed with a strong stream of water. The seeds remaining on the sieves are collected and dried in a shaded but airy place. Wild strawberry seeds can be sown in boxes on several dates: from February until May. Then we get young plants to establish plantations for a long period – from spring to autumn. From the seeds sown in February, seedlings are obtained in May (plants) useful for sale. When young seedlings have two pairs of leaves, they should be pierced. Under conditions of good care, young plants after 6-8 weeks are suitable for planting in gardens. Digging up and preparing seedlings for sale is similar to the production of strawberry planting material.
