Planting blueberries and strawberries

Highbush blueberry requires special site preparation before planting. The holes are dug bigger, preferably in a square on the side 1,2, in depth 0,6 m, after the wall, the side walls are lined with foil, and then the hole is filled with high peat or decomposed forest mulch. You can also add sawdust or bark to the substrate. The foil on the side walls protects against the exchange of soil ions, leading to an increase in soil pH.
The bottom of the well is left without insulation, to prevent excessive accumulation of water and flooding of the root system.

By choosing the recommended summer date (July) planting strawberries, it's best to use your own seedlings. This makes it possible not only to choose the right weather (preferably on a cloudy day after heavy rain), but most of all picking up seedlings with a lump of earth, which then endure transplanting better. The distance between the rows in the bed should be approx. 25…30 cm, and between plants in a row 10 cm. Such a dense planting significantly increases the fruit yield in the first year. However, it raises costs, if the seedling is bought. After the first fruiting, the plants should be thinned by removing every second row and every second plant in the row.
Strawberries should be planted to this depth, on which they grew previously. Plants planted too deep will have the so-called. heart underground, which as a result reduces the number of receptions. Planting too shallow is also harmful. When planting, care should be taken to ensure that the soil is well pressed against the root system along its entire length.
