Artichoke and Card. They differ from each other in this, that the artichoke has a broad, the fleshy bottom of the basket-inflorescence, and the card is thick, fleshy petioles and these parts are edible. They are very sensitive to frost. They require abundant organic and mineral fertilization. They are propagated from root suckers or seeds. The leaf petioles of the cardoons require bleaching, like endives. The artichoke baskets are cut, when the bud is tied, but not yet developed.
