hydrangea – beautiful and healthy

MAY HORTENSIONS BE HEALTHY AND GROWING, they must be provided with a semi-shaded position and optimal irrigation. Plants do best in moderately moist soil, cannot be allowed or dried, nor the shedding of roots. Feeding is necessary only during the plant growth period and should be stopped at the beginning of August. After this date, hydrangeas enter the dormant phase and begin to form buds for next year's flowering shoots. From that moment on, we do not perform any work related to cutting shoots, otherwise the hydrangeas will not bloom. Old inflorescences are eligible for trimming, these are cut above the first leaf bud. Late frosts are a serious threat to young buds; a sudden drop in temperature can destroy all the seeds of new shoots. That's why experts recommend, to move the pots to cool after the leaves fall, albeit maintaining a positive temperature of the quarters, e.g. for garage or basement. It does not matter, whether the quarters are bright, or partially darkened.
In the regions, where the temperature drops are significant and the cultivation of garden hydrangea has no chance, you can plant a shrub or bouquet hydrangea, which bloom on this year's shoots and are not harmed by frosts. Unfortunately, their flowers do not have such delightful colors as the garden hydrangea, because they are white, but enormous, with a cross section of approx 30 cm.

INCREDIBLE METAMORPHOSIS – The unquestionable advantage of hydrangeas is the original discoloration of flowers during the entire flowering period. Full flowers of the 'Forever' variety from the You series&Me are light pink in the beginning, after a few weeks it turns violet, then they turn green, to enchant us with purple colors again at the end of the season.

Growing garden hydrangeas
Discount hydrangeas prefer semi-shaded positions in moist soil. Direct sunlight and dry, sandy grounds do not provide them with the best development conditions (their natural habitat is the humid desert regions of Japan). Hydrangeas are resistant to freezing, nevertheless, their flower shoots are prone to late frosts. To prevent their effects, we recommend planting bushes in sheltered positions. The exception is the 'Endless Summer' variety. While other garden hydrangeas bloom on last year's shoots, said variety develops new flower shoots until autumn. Therefore, even when the first buds freeze, flowering continues.
