Beetroot. It grows well in any soil, except very acidic. It is grown in the second year after manure, from sowing straight into the ground, in rows what 30 cm. If the emergence is dense, stops, leaving plants every 6…10 cm. Intermittent plants can be transplanted elsewhere.
Sowing date: beginning of IV… beginning of VI.
Variations: Egyptian, Red ball, Round Dark Red.
Salsefia. It has shorter, bright and less brittle roots than scorzonera, therefore its cultivation is easier. The soil requirements and the position in the crop rotation are the same as for scorzonera. It is sown right into the ground, in rows up to 20…25 cm and stops every 7th…10 cm. When the plant breaks out into an inflorescence shoot, the root loses its food value. It can winter in the ground and gives higher yields than scorzonera.
Sowing date: end of III…beginning of IV.
Variety: Fana.
