Principles of bee breeding

beekeeper costumeTo the general rules, which every bee breeder should follow, can include the following:
– before starting work with bees, it is necessary to protect the body with protective clothing and prepare the necessary tools and equipment;

– disassembly of the nest should generally be carried out at an ambient temperature not lower than 14°C in the shade;

– with no wind, In sunny weather, you can dismantle the nest all day long, but it's best to do it in the afternoon. During the honeyflow period, it is best to perform the necessary treatments in the evening:

– reviews should be avoided, when the bees may be particularly irritable (cool and windy weather, no use, etc.);

– do not expose patches to sunlight. This has a negative effect, especially in June, and sometimes it causes the patches to melt;

– combs or equipment cannot be left outside the hives, especially during the harvest season;

– without a clear need, do not change the order of the frames and do not rotate them when laying the nest;

– any inspection should be kept to a minimum;

– in any situation, when activities cause bees to exit the hive, you have to smoke out the outgoing bees anyway, to turn back;

– regardless of the degree of malignancy of the bees, the bellows of the smoker should be pressed once a second. Pressing faster causes the smoke to heat up excessively, and flying out sparks invisible during the day, which by mating single bees, cause them to behave unnaturally, which consequently leads to aggressiveness of other bees;

– do not fumigate the bees at the outlet before opening the hive. The guards, scattered by the smoke, retreat into the interior and there is a possibility of honey robbery by other bees;

– fumigation of removed combs with brood not sealed should be absolutely avoided, and the entire nest part (i.e.. intended for reproduction) only superficially fumigate, with particular emphasis on older bees, usually on the walls of the hive, on the side of the frames. It is enough to fumigate them slightly, to go back;

– please note, that all smoke is poisonous to bees. Strongly smoky bees stop working efficiently and live shorter lives.
